He started playing Badminton at the age of 8 and went on to become India’s #1 and World’s #32 in Men’s singles event. He was also listed in the World Top 50 for 8 years. A US Open finalist, pre quarter finalist in 2004 Athens Olympics games and a Common Wealth Games silver medalist, he has had several other wins under his belt. A BMCC (Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce) alumnus, he started his academy under the name NKBA (Nikhil Kanetkar Badminton Academy) in the year 2011 to nurture young and enthusiastic kids from all over Maharashtra aged between ages 8 to 18. He believes that we learn better from our mistakes and grow stronger as we become self-dependent. More of an educator than their coach, Nikhil Kanetkar imbibes the same in his students. He trains 130 trainees everyday including working professionals from corporate batches out of which 2 trainees are ranked India No.1 in under 15 Girls singles and Under 15 Boys singles category. His academy is sponsored by ‘Li-Ning’ which is one of the leading and most prominent sports companies. He divides his coaching techniques between playing and training sessions and follows a unique method of teaching at the academy.
